Bikaner city is a another desert city in rajasthan and a popular tourist destination among travalers. This city is colourful and vibrant and offers a plethora of places to visit in Bikaner. Since its establishment in the year 1488 AD the rich cultural heritage is associated with Bikaner. The town was developed by Rao Bika Ji who was a great warrior. History Of Bikaner

Bikaner, before the 15th century, was known by the name of Jangladesh and was under the rule of Rajputs. In 1486, Rao Bika, a Rajput ruler, built this place. The place where Rao Bika wanted to build it belonged to a Nehra Jat who got ready to give the land to the king, only if the name of the place would be linked to his name, to which the king agreed.  Hence, the name of the place was kept Bikaner. Rao Bika, being the first son of Rao Jodha, wanted to build his own kingdom and hence, built the present day Bikaner. Since Bikaner was in the middle of the Thar desert, it served as an oasis and was on the trade route between Gujarat coast and Central Asia. Around a century after Rao Bika founded Bikaner, the state’s fortunes flourished under the sixth Raja, Rai Singhji, who ruled from 1571 to 1611. During the Mughal Empire’s rule in the country.

Tourist Attractions In Bikaner

Junagarh Fort :-
Junagarh Fort was built in the year 1593 by Raja Rai Singh. The fort complex houses some magnificent palaces constructed in red sandstone and marble.  The fort structure consists of temples and palaces. The delicately done galleries, lawns, and windows catch the eyes of the visitors. The Karan Mahal, Anup Mahal, Chandra Mahal and Phool Mahal are some major attractions here.

Lallgarh Palace :-
Another structural wonder in Bikaner is Lalgarh Palace. This magnificent palace was constructed by Maharaja Ganga Singh in the new 20th century. The palace has now been transformed into a hotel. The palace also incorporates a museum that is located inside the Ganga Niwas. Here one can witness the miniature paintings that are linked to Bikaner school of art. 

Karni Mata Temple :-
Karni Mata Temple is likely a standout amongst the most renowned spots to visit in Bikaner.  Going back to the 15th century, this sanctuary is devoted to Karni Mata who was the incarnation of Goddess Durga. Legend has it that when Karni Mata’s child passed on, she asked for Yama to restore her child’s life, however, Yama did not. Along these lines, Karni Mata being the incarnation of Goddess restored the life of her child and proclaimed that from now onwards her family won’t confront demise yet be resurrected as ratsoday, there are around 20,000 rats that live in the sanctuary

Gajner Palace :-
It is located in the city of Bikaner on the banks of Gajner Lake. This regal palace was built by Maharaja Ganga Singh as a hunting lodge for him and his family but was converted to a hotel in 1976. The hunting resort once had remnants of a historic railway station. In the year 1922, the lodge was connected to the rail. Despite the modernisation, the walls of Gajner Palace are adorned with art and heritage.

Climate Of Bikaner

Bikaner is situated in the middle of the Thar desert and has a hot desert climate with very little rainfall and extreme temperatures. In summer temperatures can exceed 48 °C, and during the winter they may dip below freezing.
The climate in Bikaner is characterised by significant variations in temperature. In the summer season it is very hot when the temperatures lie in the range of 28–53.5 °C (82.4–128.3 °F). In the winter, it is fairly cold with temperatures lying in the range of −4–23.2 °C (24.8–73.8 °F). Annual rainfall is in the range of 260–440 millimetres (10–17 in).

By Air

The Bikaner Airport (Nal Airforce Station) (BKB) has a limited domestic airport that has Alliance Air flights to and from Delhi and Jaipur. The Bikaner Airport is around 15kms from Bikaner city. The nearest international airport is the Jaipur International Airport and Bikaner is around 350kms from there. Another domestic airport that is near is Jodhpur Airport. Situated at around 250kms from Bikaner, this airport has flights connecting Delhi and Mumbai.

By Train
There are two main railway stations in Bikaner-Bikaner Junction and Lalgarh Railway Station. Both the stations are located at a distance of approximately 6 kms away from the main city and are well-connected with most of the Indian cities.

By Road 
The National and State Highways like NH 11, 15, & 89 are very well linked with other major cities and metros in India. There are a plethora of travel agencies that provide seats on Volvo and non-AC buses. The RSRTC plies a number of vehicles that take travellers to and from Bikaner. Since Bikaner is quite far from the other popular tourist cities in Rajasthan, there are comfortable sleeper buses for the budget conscious.
